Frequently Asked Questions

Why or when do I need an Architect?

  • The services an architect can offer are many. The architect has the ability to listen to the individual owner’s needs/requirements and shape them into a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and enhanced environment. Additionally, most municipalities require that plans be prepared by a licensed architect.

Do all projects require all of the services described previously?

  • Most new projects and some renovations include all of the services noted above. However, we can adjust our services to an Owner’s particular requirements.

What characteristics produce the best project?

  • Several project characteristics contribute to produce the best new building, renovation, or restoration. Attentive listening, clear communications, and team work by all parties. The Architect gets to know the Owner and understands their needs and requirements. The Owner’s approval of each phase of work prior to proceeding is very important. Also, it is important to allow time for the Owner to process and understand the plans.

What is the make-up of the project “team”?

  • Several “team” members are a part of the design and building of a project. Specifically, they are the Owner, the Architect, and the Contractor. Affiliated design professionals such as a structural engineer, mechanical/electrical/plumbing/fire protection engineer, interior designer, and a landscape architect are often involved in creating a building.

    How are the fees determined?

  • Fees are determined according to our role and level of service. We can structure our fee as a fixed amount, percentage of the construction cost, or hourly rates based on Owner’s needs. The projects size, location, level of finish, and other design factors affect our fees.
